From 3.4 to 8.8 Million in Revenue in 12 months for Direct Repsonse Online Business

When we started to work with this direct response business, they were heavily reliant on native advertising and affiliates to grow their business.

They had worked with a big, well-known agency before but in their own words “it was a disaster, they didn’t care at all about results….”.

We started by running traffic to their existing funnels by adding compliant advertorials in front of the video sales pages. This worked for a while until we decided to test a new approach.

Going forward, we were involved in the development of new offers to make sure they would be suitable for Facebook and Google advertising.

We focused mainly on long form text sales pages. This allowed us to go straight from the ad to the sales page, vs. going through an advertorial first.

At the same time, we also started to deploy campaigns on Google Search and Google Shopping. While the volume on these is significantly lower than on Facebook or Youtube, the profitability can often be triple or more.

The next expansion strategy was to launch their best-selling offers in the German speaking market (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg). As our media buyers are fluent in German as well, this process was rather quick and efficient.

Again, we helped first with sale page compliance before launching our best performing ads in German. It turned out that the German market became more profitable and scalable than the French market.

Finally, we started testing Youtube ads on some offers. Here the funnel flow was Youtube ad -> Short form advertorial -> VSL. It worked pretty well, again, both in France and in Germany.

All in all we were able to spend 2 173 309€ on Facebook and Google that year at a combined 1.73 ROAS. The business’s goal is to break even on the front end at a 1.5 ROAS in order to acquire customers for free as they have a good backend build out.

Our Process

1. Back to the Basics

First, we do the boring stuff that a lot of people don’t want to do. Because, well, it’s boring. This includes doing a deep dive into your offers, your customers, your market, your competitors. Understanding what makes your ideal audiences tick. And how we can position you in the most efficient way.

This first phase also includes doing an audit of your ad accounts and tracking to learn from what you’ve already done and to make sure the right foundations are in place. If not, we’ll set them up for you. Based on our findings, we’ll establish a media plan and, once approved, start production of assets like ad copy and creatives. We’ll also work with your team to get additional creatives and assets to test.

2. Let it marinate

In this second phase, we’ll start to test our hypotheses by launching test campaigns. The data gathered will help us to craft new test ideas and see if the conversion flow needs improvements.

Once we find winning tests, we’ll make sure they are not outliers by running them on higher budgets and on new audiences to validate them as winners.

3. Add growth steroids 

Once we have identified winners and are confident the whole machine runs smoothly, we’ll start to inject some fuel and scale campaigns on different ad networks. This is where you can see growth happen quickly while maintaining your KPIs.

Once we get to this stage, the cycle renews based on the new data collected in the different phases. We contentiously try to find new ways to improve the entire conversion engine, from ads to funnel steps to backend revenue.
